At Hetton School, we have provided trips to some amazing places for our students. Examples of some of the iconic places we have been include:
- Costa Rica
For the past 4 years Year 7 students have conquered the challenge of Roseberry Topping. Early in their Hetton School career they are asked to make a pledge “what’s your sentence” of how they want to be remembered and what their legacy is going to be at Hetton School once they’ve left. They record this at the summit and after living the principle of ‘every step counts’. Listening to teacher support and advice (feedback); working with others in their group (teamwork); learning from mistakes after taking the wrong route (growth mind-set); and never giving up (resilience) are all common themes that students will experience throughout their daily life at Hetton School and the Roseberry Topping challenge helps bring this metaphor to life.
Roseberry Topping was an amazing experience to have during school time with your friends. Even though it was a challenge, as a team we were resilient and never gave up. This experience was one in a lifetime and I would definitely do it again, but this time try to go up and down in the horrific weather we had to face. We had the whistling wind and rambunctious rain to face but we completed the challenge and made it to the top, which was 327 metres high! After our dinner, my friends and I went sliding down the hill. It was so much fun”!Leon Hayton
